DOUG POE

Fine Art Nature Photographer & Visual Artist

Artist Statement

My passion for photography balances well with my appreciation of being outdoors to see all the beauty that nature has gifted us to enjoy. It has provided an environment of creativity that allows me to share my perspective from behind the camera that hopefully becomes an inspiring and pleasing connection for the viewer.

As a photographer I’m excited by the thought of discovery and the unknown adventure with every new outing. I shoot for myself but I am also mindful about the opportunity to preserve a moment that may encourage others to think about our natural resources and become conscientious stewards of the environment.

If my work provokes thought, artistic appreciation or investigation by anyone who may wonder where, or how a moment was captured then I am honored and grateful.

Bio

I’m just a guy with a camera who feels blessed and full of life when I’m out capturing images of places that I visit. This photography journey has taken me from a simple hobby as a teenager in central Ohio with my first Kodak Brownie film camera to the present digital age and social media outlets where I can share my landscape and nature photography with others to enjoy.

After moving to Naples, Florida in 1979 and I became surrounded with so many outdoor photographic opportunities it was time for an upgrade to my first Canon SLR camera which rarely left my side.

I recall meeting local resident Clyde Butcher for the first time and admiring his remarkable black and white photography. His vision and masterful skills have inspired me ever since and I am fortunate to appreciate a small collection of his work in my home every day.

My desire to learn even more about this form of art began 8 years ago by planning annual excursions out west visiting California, Oregon and Washington State as I attended many group and private photography workshops in the most amazingly beautiful locations lead by talented  professionals and with other equally passionate photographers who have all helped me learn and grow as an artist.

Over the last couple of years I have resurrected my appreciation for where I live by dedicating more time looking for my next photo opportunity at home with having our pristine coastline at my front door and the mysterious Everglades in my back yard to take full advantage of.

I am always challenging myself to sharpen my composition visualization along with attempting new artistic techniques and to continuously improve my processing skills on the computer.

Photography for me is not only about what I may see and capture but the never-ending learning process of being in nature and feeding my hunger for creativity and personal achievement.

I can relate to Tara Chisolm’s quote, “Photography is the beauty of life captured”
